School Governors Needed!
Shape the future at Advantage Schools.
Are you passionate about children’s education and the communities we serve?
We are currently looking for new governors to join our friendly and supportive Primary Local Governance Committees in Luton, Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard, serving The Linden Academy, The Vale Academy and The Rushmere Park Academy and in Bedford and Sandy, serving Elstow School, Queen's Park Academy and Laburnum Primary School.
Our governors come from a range of different backgrounds; they have differing skills and experience, but they all share a common interest of transforming the life chances of the young people in our care. We are guided by the principle that “it must be good enough for our own children or those that we care deeply about, to be good enough for the pupils in our schools”.
All governors serve a four-year term; you will be expected to attend three meetings a year as well as conducting termly visits to the schools.
We would like to hear from anyone who:
- Has the knowledge and understands the needs of the local communities we serve.
- Has sufficient time and energy for the role.
- Has a background or expertise in business, charity and fundraising, health and wellbeing, sport, sustainability or equality diversity and inclusion.
What does the role offer?
- A chance to develop your own personal skills.
- Gain insights into the dynamic education landscape.
- Network with diverse professionals, educators and community leaders.
- A sense of achievement in helping to transform children’s life-chances.
What are the key responsibilities?
Supporting, monitoring, and challenging the schools on:
- stakeholder engagement
- careers education
- pupil voice initiatives
- environment and sustainability
- staff and pupils’ health and wellbeing
- opportunities through sport
- equality and inclusivity
Placing the schools at the heart of their communities, creating community pioneers to benefit both the schools and the local areas.
Ensuring that pupils within the schools can benefit from, and contribute to, local projects and initiatives.
Supporting the schools with governance representation, for example on behaviour or exclusion panels.
Being responsible for cluster wide opportunities and work collaboratively across all schools to address issues collectively and share best practice.
Contributing to effective communication across the trust.
Championing the trust’s vision and values.
Promoting high educational standards and achievements.
We are particularly interested in applications from people with links to Luton, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard, Bedford or Sandy however, please do not be put off in applying if you do not. What is more important is that you have the enthusiasm, interest and willingness to contribute and learn.
In line with good practice, all governor appointments will be subject to security clearance. The aim of this check is to protect children and vulnerable young adults from abuse of any kind.
Join us in empowering young minds and building a brighter future.
